Back-to-School Activities for Kids

It’s that time of year again when Summer break ends, and kids are heading back to school. Even if you are provider, you can get into the school spirit. We have a few activities you can share with your kids to make starting school more fun, and to get them excited to learn.

School Scavenger Hunt – There are many ways to get kids excited about starting school, including a scavenger hunt. Place school supplies around the room and have kids go find them and put them in their backpack. This is an easy way to get kids involved in the learning process. You can also do different kinds of scavenger hunts like math space objects, math problems, or even rhyming themes where kids have to find anything that rhymes in the room. Back-to-School Countdown Chain – Kids need to find ways to get excited about school, and what better way to get them involved then by starting a countdown. Cut out strips of construction paper and then form them into a circle and tape it together. Then make a chain by looping the next piece of paper inside the first circle and forming another circle around it, and so on until you have 10 or 15 paper chain links. Then kids can rip off each link as they countdown the days until school starts. ( https://www.splashlearn.com/blog/exciting-back-to-school-activities-for-kids-of-different-grades/ )

Make School Photo Frames – You can have your kids make this themselves or you can do it for them. Start by collecting popsicle sticks. Then arrange them in a box or frame and glue them together. You can do this yourself or have the kids glue them together as part of the activity. Then kids can paint them or draw on books or pencils or other school supply images. You can even pain the frame yellow and black in the shape of the back window of a school bus. Now, then kids get their school pictures taken, they will have a place to put them that they designed themselves. ( https://iheartcraftythings.com/diy-back-to-school-photo-frame.html )

School Pencil Holders – This is a simple project, but one that kids can create and use throughout the school year. Take a used soup can (emptied and cleaned) and cover it with glue. Then take a piece of construction paper and cover the outside with it, covering part of the opening and inside of the can as well (you may need to cut it a bit to make it fit). Then kids can pick what they want to decorate it with, stickers, drawings, paint, other strips of construction paper, or even their name. It’s an easy and fun thing for kids to have as their head back to school. ( https://craftsbyamanda.com/back-to-school-pencil-holders/ )
