February has arrived, and that means another Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. While some kids may be celebrating for the first time, others may be looking for some fun activities to show their love for this special day. We have a few things you can do with your kids to get them interested in Valentine’s Day.
Fake Stained-Glass Heart Designs – Start with a white sheet of paper. Then mix glue with black paint and create a heart design on the paper. This will be the outline of the fake stained glass. Make sure to add some extra lines on the design to add in more color segments. Finally, have kids paint the black-lined segments any colors they want with watercolor paint. Wax Resist Heart Art – On a sheet of paper, take a clear Crayola crayon or white pastel and have kids draw designs like hearts, flowers or other Valentine’s Day designs. This will look almost invisible at first, but then have kids use watercolors to brush over their Crayola designs. The wax will resist the paint, leaving a clear design, surrounded by the different colors they are painting. ( https://artfulparent.com/kids-homemade-valentines-think-process-and-product/ )
Valentine’s Day Garland – Take some heart shaped doilies, or coffee filters flattened and cut into hearts, and then have kids color them any color they like. Let them dry. Then you can take some vegetable oil and spread it on top to help it shine in the light. Use twine to string the hearts in a line, and then put the string up on each side of a window to show off your garland. ( https://artfulparent.com/painting-heart-doilies-a-valentines-day-bunting/ )
Glitter Rock Valentines – Next time your kids are outside, have them find a nice flat rock that they can do this project with. Make sure to clean the rock before you start. Then take glue, pour it into a bowl, and have kids paint hearts onto the rock. Once the glue is on, have kids use different colored glitter to sprinkle on top to color the glue heart. This will create a sparkly and unique Valentine’s Day decoration. ( https://artfulparent.com/glitter-rock-valentines-a-fun-valentine-craft-project-for-kids/
