As one of three providers to open through the City of Federal Way’s investment in the Imagine Institute’s Imagine U program, Nidia’s success shows what can happen when determination meets the right support system.
From the beginning, Nidia approached this work with intention. “I wanted to build something meaningful for my daughter and for other families,” she said. “I knew I loved children, but I didn’t know where to start until someone showed me the way.”
A Journey Shaped by Family, Purpose, and Patience
Nearly three years ago, Nidia began looking into what it would take to become a licensed child care provider. Now with a four-year-old daughter at home, she sought a career that allowed her to be fully present while also creating stability for her family. But like many new providers, she struggled to understand the steps on her own.
“I felt lost at first,” Nidia shared. “I didn’t have experience, and I didn’t know anyone who could walk me through the process.”
Everything changed when a trusted provider with nearly two decades of experience encouraged her to contact the Imagine Institute. That simple suggestion became the moment Nidia’s vision began to take shape.
Building Skills and Confidence With The Imagine Institute
Once connected with Imagine, Nidia threw herself into learning. She enrolled in every training she could and soon met the instructor and mentor who would guide her through each stage.
“They supported me month after month,” she said. “Every time I had a question or felt unsure, someone from Imagine was there. I never felt alone in the process.”
Imagine’s coaching, monthly check-ins, and financial support built the foundation Nidia needed. She developed confidence in her abilities and a deep understanding of what it means to create a nurturing learning environment.
She continues her education today and will begin her Initial and Short Certificate coursework in January. She speaks openly about the impact of Imagine’s support: “I tell everyone about Imagine. It’s a place where your dream can become real if you’re willing to work.”
Opening Day: A Celebration Years in the Making
The grand opening of Mundo de Juguetes was an emotional milestone for Nidia. After 23 years in Federal Way, opening her doors to city leaders, Imagine staff, and community members felt deeply affirming.
“I never imagined so many people would come to my home to celebrate with me,” she said. “I felt respected and recognized for everything I’ve worked for.”
The day was filled with congratulations, encouragement, and genuine warmth with family, friends, elected officials, City of Federal Way, and staff from the Imagine Institute. For Nidia, it reinforced that her years of effort had purpose and that the community valued what she was building.

A Child Care Program Already Loved by Families
Despite being newly opened, Mundo de Juguetes has quickly become a trusted space for local families. Its central location, home-based setting, and warm environment make it ideal for parents seeking reliable and nurturing care.
Nidia already has a waitlist of families hoping to enroll. Parents notice the quality of care, and many express relief at having a provider in their own neighborhood.
“The best part is seeing children come in excited every morning,” Nidia shared. “Their happiness tells me I’m doing the right thing.”
Running a home-based program has strengthened her connection to her community and allowed her to balance family life with meaningful work.
A Business With Heart and a Vision for the Future
Launching Mundo de Juguetes has opened new possibilities for Nidia. She hopes to continue her studies, expand her business, and one day open a center that can serve more families and create jobs.
She credits Imagine U and her mentor, Génesis, with helping her reach this point. Their relationship-based approach shaped her professionalism and kept her grounded throughout the licensing journey.
“What started as a dream is now a reality,” Nidia said at her opening. “This is only the beginning. I want to keep growing and keep serving families for many years.”

The launch of Mundo de Juguetes, along with two other new child care programs in Federal Way, Happy Kids and Halimo Daycare, demonstrates the impact of strategic community investment. Imagine U is a relationship-based mentorship program designed to increase the number of licensed family child care providers who can care for children in Washington State. Imagine U pairs experienced and talented licensed child care providers with those interested in becoming licensed, and offers both the mentor and intern supports to help them grow professionally. “Me apoyaron mes tras mes”, dijo. “Cada vez que tenía una pregunta o me sentía insegura, alguien de Imagine estaba ahí. Nunca me sentí sola en el proceso.”

Ella reconoce que Imagine U y su mentora, Génesis, la ayudaron a llegar hasta este punto. Su enfoque basado en relaciones dio forma a su profesionalismo y la mantuvo firme durante todo el proceso de obtener la licencia.
“Lo que comenzó como un sueño ahora es una realidad”, dijo Nidia en su inauguración. “Esto es solo el comienzo. Quiero seguir creciendo y sirviendo a las familias por muchos años.”
