Cold, clouds, and rain can put a damper on your activities this winter, but there is plenty you can do to stop the winter blues! We have come up with a few fun things you can do to help entertain and educate your kids.
Make Your Own Winter Snow Globe – Start by finding a mason jar, or an airtight glass container. Then, add some water and have the kids add some glitter or bright plastic pieces. They can even add in little snowflake erasers or small plastic cartoon characters. Then seal the container tight with a lid and shake it up. Kids can watch the glitter float around and to the bottom of the jar. Then anytime they are upset or need to calm down, just have them shake up their snow globe. Snowy, Winter–Themed Suncatchers – This is a fun way to bring more light and color into your playroom. Start by laying out a coffee filter, then have kids paint it with watercolors. Lighter colors like sky blue are the best so you can make sure the light can still get through. You can also add glitter if you want. Then hang your colorful coffee filters in the window to catch the light from the sun. (https://parade.com/1121869/stephanieosmanski/winter-activities-for-kids/)
Create a Snow Paint Picture – Start by combining equal parts shaving cream and glue into a container. You can add food coloring if you want to offer kids different color options. Then, kids can use a paintbrush to create a picture on some construction paper. They can use just the white color to create a snowman, or different colors to create a cool winter scene. Make a Boredom Bucket – This is a simple idea that can cut down on kids’ boredom. Simply paint or color a bunch of popsicle sticks, then write short activities on them in marker. It can be things like: “read a book”, “do a puzzle” or even “one hour of screen time.” Then whenever one of your kids gets bored, tell them to grab a stick from the boredom bucket.
