TRAINING

All our training is developed, reviewed and/or approved by child care providers on the Imagine Institute Curriculum Committee to make sure it supports our mission to be relevant, respectful, and responsive. Fellow providers teach most trainings, allowing them to uniquely relate to the material and participants. 


Family, Friends and Neighbors Training

  • Eligibility: Don’t forget! You must:
    • Be authorized and caring for a subsidized child at the time of the training.
    • Claim all monthly invoices
    • Submit paperwork by June 6, 2018

Licensed Family Child Care Training

  • Eligibility: Registration is on a first come first serve basis and licensed family child care providers who care for subsidized children only.

Mandatory Electronic Attendance System Training

Mandatory Electronic Attendance System Training

All child care providers who started accepting Working Connections or Seasonal Child Care subsidy payments prior to October 1, 2018 will be required to use an electronic attendance system by November 1, 2019. All providers who started accepting subsidy after October 1, 2018 have 90 days to complete the training and log a successful transaction using the Electronic Attendance System. Child Care Basics + $750 Bonus (3-Day Course)

This 30-hour course is required of all child care lead teachers, program supervisors, and directors in Washington State. Topics include the basic core knowledge of childhood development, guidance and behavior, health, and safety. The Imagine Institute is the primary organization training Family, Friends, and Neighbors providers in Child Care Basics.

All classes are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Complete all three days of training to receive your $750 bonus. Click here to register.

Health, Safety and Electronic Attendance System + $500 Bonus (2-Day Course)

Electronic Attendance + Health and Safety (5 hours)

This curriculum is designed to offer an overview of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) as it applies to teaching young children. Participants will discuss the components of teaching STEM to young children with a focus on hands-on discovery learning. The class covers methods of best practice for teaching young children and how to use inquiry to develop new ideas and solve problems. Washington State guidelines will be applied to aid them in their planning of STEM activities for young children.

First Aid/CPR/Bloodborne Pathogens + Health and Safety (7.5 hours)

This training covers two important topics for FFNs. First, the new health and safety training required of all non-relative Family, Friend and Neighbor providers. Second, the Electronic Attendance System training. This training is required of all Family, Friend and Neighbor child care providers.

Mandatory FFN Health and Safety (1-Day Course)

Non-Relative Mandatory FFN Training: First Aid/CPR/Bloodborne Pathogens + Health and Safety (7.5 hours)

This training is required of all non-relative FFN child care providers. It covers both a new health and safety training developed by the Department of Children, Youth, and Families and First Aid, CPR, and Blood Borne Pathogens.

FFN Health and Safety training is from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. If you choose to attend this training without the FFN STEM class, you will not receive a bonus. Click here to register.

NEW: Business Practices

Running an early learning program without management training can be challenging.  The Department of Children Youth and Families and the Imagine Institute is offering you a free training to help you sharpen your business skills and keep your business thriving.

You will :

  • Earn 6 STARS, in-service hours
  • Connect with other child care professionals and business owners
  • Receive business management tools and resources
  • Lend your voice to inform future training

Caring for Children with Special Needs 1 (2-Day Course)

This two-day course is an introduction to caring for children with special needs. Participants will gain an understanding of how to work with families to access resources and support for their child with special needs. In addition, providers will develop a toolbox of strategies to support these children in their programs.

Classes are from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm. You may choose to attend multiple trainings but will only receive one Lakeshore incentive (you will receive the higher incentive of the two) per license, per fiscal year (July 1, 2018-June 30, 2019). Click here to register.

Mastering Record Keeping and Tax Preparation (1-Day Course)

Participants will learn how to keep essential business records, claim proper deductions, and legally reduce their taxes. Other topics include:

  • Updates on current IRS rulings affecting providers
  • How to claim food expenses using the standard meal allowance rule
  • The key record keeping rules that will save you money
  • How to calculate your Time-Space percentage to maximize your deductions
  • How to depreciate your furniture, appliances, home improvements, and home
  • How to avoid mistakes when hiring family members and other employees
  • What to look for in a tax preparer

All classes are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eligible participants who complete the entire class will receive a $200 incentive to Lakeshore Learning. Executive Function (2-Day Course)

Developing Executive Function skills in children at an early age can have a tremendous impact on a child's learning, health, and future success. Providers of early learning can positively influence children for a lifetime when we understand what Executive Function is and how it develops, as well as by building strategies and skills to pass onto the children in our care.

All classes are from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Attend both days of this training to receive your $300 incentive to Lakeshore Learning. Coming to Terms: How to Effectively Use Contracts and Policies (1-Day Course)

Participants will learn how to establish effective contracts and policies and enforce their agreements with parents. Other topics include:

  • How to establish a business relationship with parents
  • The four key elements of a contract
  • How contracts and policies differ
  • How to resolve conflicts and enforce agreements
  • How to write a transportation policy that protects you and the children in your care

Managing Your Money: How to Save Money and Plan for Retirement (1-Day Course)

Participants will learn how to reduce their expenses, increase their income, save more money for retirement, and learn how to invest using the various IRA plans available. Other topics include:

  • Identify ways to reduce expenses and increase income
  • Where to put money to meet short and long-term goals
  • Learn how to prioritize long-term financial goals
  • Understand the five basic rules of retirement planning
  • IRA retirement plans for providers: Traditional IRA, Roth, SIMPLE, SEP, Self-Employed 401(k) plan

Early Achievers 101 (1-Day Course)

This training is designed to help you understand the critical role you will play in the quality improvement journey for your program and give you practical steps that will help you make the most out your Early Achievers participation.

Love and Logic (3-Day Course)

Participants will learn how to develop self-confident, motivated children who are ready for the real world. Learn how to care effectively while teaching your children responsibility and growing their character. Establish healthy control through easy-to-implement steps without anger, threats, nagging, or power struggles.

Classes are from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm. This class is taught over three, four-hour sessions - take one or take them all! Participants will earn 4-12 STARS hours and $150 toward materials for every session they take!
