TRAINING

All our training is developed, reviewed and/or approved by child care providers on the Imagine Institute Curriculum Committee to make sure it supports our mission to be relevant, respectful, and responsive. Fellow providers teach most trainings, allowing them to uniquely relate to the material and participants. 


Family, Friends and Neighbors Training

  • Eligibility: Don’t forget! You must:
    • Be authorized and caring for a subsidized child at the time of the training.
    • Claim all monthly invoices
    • Submit paperwork by June 6, 2018

Licensed Family Child Care Training

  • Eligibility: Registration is on a first come first serve basis and licensed family child care providers who care for subsidized children only.

Mandatory Electronic Attendance System Training

Mandatory Electronic Attendance System Training

All child care providers who started accepting Working Connections or Seasonal Child Care subsidy payments prior to October 1, 2018 will be required to use an electronic attendance system by November 1, 2019. All providers who started accepting subsidy after October 1, 2018 have 90 days to complete the training and log a successful transaction using the Electronic Attendance System. Child Care Basics + $750 Bonus (3-Day Course)

This 30-hour course is required of all child care lead teachers, program supervisors, and directors in Washington State. Topics include the basic core knowledge of childhood development, guidance and behavior, health, and safety. The Imagine Institute is the primary organization training Family, Friends, and Neighbors providers in Child Care Basics.

Health, Safety and Electronic Attendance System + $500 Bonus (2-Day Course)

Electronic Attendance + Health and Safety (5 hours)

This training covers two important topics for FFNs. First, the new health and safety training required of all non-relative Family, Friend and Neighbor providers. Second, the Electronic Attendance System training. This training is required of all Family, Friend and Neighbor child care providers.

First Aid/CPR/Bloodborne Pathogens (5 hours)

This training covers life-saving health and safety practices for adults, children and infants.

This 5-hour training covers life-saving health and safety practices for adults, children and infants.

Non-Relative Mandatory FFN Training: First Aid/CPR/Bloodborne Pathogens + Health and Safety (8 hours)

This training is required of all non-relative FFN child care providers. It covers both a new health and safety training developed by the Department of Children, Youth, and Families and First Aid, CPR, and Blood Borne Pathogens.

Subsidy Billing and Electronic Attendance System (8 hours)

This training provides information about Washington State subsidy eligibility, billing and payment for Family, Friends and Neighbors child care providers. In addition to important information on subsidy billing, participants will learn about the State's new electronic attendance system requirement. Anti-Racist Early Childhood Education + $250 Bonus (1-Day Course)

This training is a sample of our innovative PREPARE for Care program, which provides an anti-racist and trauma-informed framework for early childhood educators aimed at mitigating the impacts of racism on children and to increase kindergarten readiness.

Guiding Behavior + $250 Bonus (1-Day Course)

This training is designed to help Family, Friend and Neighbor child care providers find strategies to effectively care for children who exhibit challenging behavior like aggression, tantrums and defiance in order to reduce the rate of expulsion in Washington.

Caring for Children with Special Needs 1 + $500 (2-Day Course)

This two-day Special Needs 1 course is designed so that participants will gain an understanding of typical child development, recognizing red flags and how to engage families in initial conversations of support.

Business Practices + $300 Bonus (2-Day Course)

Running an early learning program without management training can be challenging. The Department of Children Youth and Families and the Imagine Institute is offering you a free training to help you sharpen your business skills and keep your business thriving.

You will:

  • Earn 10 STARS, in-service hours
  • Connect with other child care professionals and business owners
  • Receive business management tools and resources

This two-day course is designed to offer early learning providers’ a foundational knowledge of common behaviors of children with special needs and basic observing and assessing skills in order to plan for the individual needs of children within the curriculum and the environment. Through games, hands-on activities, reflection and exploring prior knowledge, this training will connect best practice and techniques to develop skills in understanding the basics of working with children with special needs.

Coming to Terms: How to Effectively Use Contracts and Policies + $100 (1-Day Course)

Participants will learn how to establish effective contracts and policies and enforce their agreements with parents. Other topics include:

  • How to establish a business relationship with parents
  • The four key elements of a contract
  • How contracts and policies differ
  • How to resolve conflicts and enforce agreements
  • How to write a transportation policy that protects you and the children in your care
