Winter Activities for Kids This Season

A picture of a family enjoying a winter or holiday activity.

With the weather getting colder, many providers are looking for activities to do indoors this Winter. We are also getting closer to several holidays, but no matter what you celebrate, these activities will have kids enjoying the season and having fun!

Coffee Filter Snowflakes

There are a number of ways to have kids make snowflakes, but using a coffee filter seems to be the easiest. Use the round filters and have kids paint or draw designs on them. You can also fold it in half twice, and then have kids cut out sections of the filter to create symmetrical designs, similar to a snowflake! This is just one way to make snowflakes. Gingerbread Cookie Scavenger Hunt

From the same website as above, you can create a gingerbread scavenger hunt. Buy or make your own gingerbread cookies and then hid them around your house. You then give kids clues on places to find them. Their reward will be to eat the cookie they find!

Q-Tip Snowmen

Kids can paint or draw snowmen this season, but why not try something different. Put out different colored paints, including white for the snow, and orange for the carrot nose, and then have kids use Q-tips to “draw” a snowman using the points. This is sort of like a connect-the-dots drawing, but kids can use the Q-tips to create any design they want. Its something different that will be them busy. If you don’t have Q-tips, you can also use cotton swabs to create the same effect. ( https://coffeeandcarpool.com/snowman-art-with-pointillism/ )

Create Holiday Cards

No matter what holiday kids celebrate, this activity includes everyone! Create blank cards by folding a 11” x 8” piece of construction paper. Then allow kids to draw, paint or write whatever they want inside them. They can make it for a family member or a friend, and it can be for any holiday, not just Christmas.
