Finding a Staycation: Western Washington

There are a lot of places to visit in Western Washington, and if you’re looking for some good vacation ideas, you might consider something in your own area. There are so many places to choose from, but we thought we would mention a few you may not have thought of to take your family for the day.

Take a ferry across Puget Sound: There are many options to choose from when taking a ferry across Puget Sound, but the best one may be the Seattle to Bremerton ferry. It’s one of the longest routes in the ferry system, and it offers views of Mt. Rainier and the Olympic mountains. You may even be able to spot a whale during the trip. It’s a fun excursion for families who live in Western Washington.

Go to the Seattle Center: Many families live in the suburbs of Seattle, so it may be a fun trip to go into the city to visit the Seattle Center. This is located near downtown and offers views of the Space Needle and Lake Union. There are also weekly events for families, especially during the summer months. This area is also home to the Pacific Science Center, which is a great spot for kids to learn and have fun.

Visit Saltwater State Park: There are many state parks to choose from in Western Washington, but Saltwater State Park is a hidden gem for families to explore the ocean. Its located near the city of Des Moines, and offers unblocked views of the Puget Sound. Families can also walk on the beach and often find sea creatures hiding under rocks in the surf. It’s a fun day trip for families who love to get outside and explore.

See the Bellevue Botanical Gardens: This is another place that can be a fun day trip for families. You can walk around the botanical gardens, and the park right next door. They offer some education events that you may have to pay for, but if you are looking for a place for your kids to play, and many see some plants and animals they may not have seen before, this might be a good stop.

These are just a fraction of the many things you can do in Western Washington. We hope this will give you some ideas of things to do with your family in the area.
